Harry Key. Speaker, author, provocative coach. That’s what the back of his book, ‘Speak for Yourself’ says (available in all good, and a few bad bookshops) – there’s a link to the left.
Harry’s had a life less ordinary. He’s an accomplished horseman, he’s ridden solo on a motorbike across India, and speaks better Hindi than I do after a career as a Bollywood actor (playing the baddie). His booming bad guy voice still gets him gigs in voice over work.
But, I’m not sure these things tell you about the man himself. He’s one of the smartest people I’ve met, able to make sense of patterns and construct excellent arguments on the fly. He’s full of wondrous barely believable stories which are true, and point to a life lived to the full, which gives him a connection with almost all that he meets. He’s charismatic, persuasive, and knowledgeable – even though he looked sheepish during those interviews on BBC News a while back.
Most of all, what he does better than almost any trainer I’ve met…is he gets individuals to change. He’s unselfish in his pursuit to push people out of their comfort zone and into their learning zone. And he does this through warmth, charm, and provocatively holding them to account.. This changes people and the organisations they work for.
On the other hand, he is terribly disorganised, not one for early starts. He has odd Mad-Max type visions of an apocalyptic future, and keeps sending me unsolicited photographs of old motorbikes. Just so you know, it’s not all sweetness and light.
